A Message from Business Manager Bob Shand:
“Reach Out and Ask Someone”
Long Island United Way Campaign Kick-off 2011. Our 2011 United Way Campaign began on October 11th; followed by a kick-off meeting of our Captains on October 12th in Hicksville.
I know I do not have to tell you how valuable your contribution is to the Long Island United Way, or how many people benefit from the Long Island United Way. A tough economy, along with job losses can hit a family hard. Between December 2007 and July 2009 an estimated 53,600 Long Islanders lost their jobs. Perhaps you know someone; a family member, a close friend or neighbor. Losing a job can be devastating to anyone, but could you imagine being in that situation and having to choose between buying food and heating your home. Did you know that your weekly gift of $3 can help provide that family with oil to help them stay warm in the winter. Or, a contribution of just $1 per week can help feed 3 Long Islanders suffering from hunger nutritious meals for one week. A can of soda can cost you more than that. So today, I am asking every IBEW 1049 Member to continue with our proud tradition of contributing to the Long Island United Way. Renew your gift from last year and if you are not current contributor, please consider signing up this year. It is easy, just complete the pledge form provided by your Captain and return it to them. Your gift will be deducted from your weekly paycheck. Here are some other facts about United Way you may want to keep in mind; Did you know that your contribution to the Long Island United Way Community Impact Fund helps support 113 of the most effective and efficient health and human service agencies on Long Island in the areas of Education, Income and Health. Your contribution is tax-deductible if you itemize your deductions and if you contribute at the Pacesetter level, which is .08% of your wages, you can receive a day off! When your 1049 United Way Captain approaches you please be generous. There are many people, young and old counting on you. I would like to thank you in advance for your generosity and commitment to the United Way.
Look at what your weekly gift does in one year. A little amounts to a lot.
