“ National Grid has once again shown its true colors when it comes to the very people who make them successful. Instead of negotiating in good faith for fair wages and benefits, they choose to put their 600,000 customers in harm's way during the middle of winter. When they say their employees are their most valuable assets and force a strike, one has to question their sincerity. Actions speak louder than words, and IBEW Local 1049 is not alone. While no one wants a strike, sometimes you have to have a good fight for the right reason. Wages, benefits, and retirement are all good reasons.”

On behalf of the membership of IBEW Local 97, I stand in full support of our brothers and sisters in IBEW Local 1049 as they work towards reaching a fair contract with National Grid. Their courage in fighting for dignity, fair wages, and safe working conditions represents the values at the heart of the labor movement. We stand united, committed to ensuring that the voices of working people are heard and respected. We urge the community, media, and elected officials to join us in support.

It’s time National Grid deliver a fair and equitable agreement with quality healthcare, good benefits, and family sustaining wages.  We know that National Grid received a rate hike from the Public Service Commission as recent as August of 2024 with the expectation that they would reinvest in ratepayers, reinvest in our utility infrastructure, and reinvest in the people who maintain it.  The time is now for them to live up to their commitment to the region, and the workers who make it all possible.”
